CHIMNEY REPOINTING

Repointing your chimney involves removing deteriorated or damaged mortar from the joints, and replacing it with new mortar. The brick that your chimney is made from is extremely long-lasting. However, The mortar deteriorates much more quickly. This can cause gaps to grow in the joints and water to seep in. If left unchecked, you could eventually be looking at structural damage in the roof and potential leaks in your property

. Repointing is an important way to protect and improve the stability of your chimney’s structure.

Plus, new pointing will freshen up the look of your stone or brickwork.

CHIMNEY POT (supply & fit)

REASONS FOR HAVING A POT FITTED

  • Give the opening on the chimney extra coverage to keep out debris from trees like leaves, acorns, and sticks.

  • Protect the interior of the chimney from rainfall, snow, ice buildup, and small rodents or birds that find their way inside chimneys to make nests and seek shelter.

  • Create a taller smokestack and a better draft for combustion, because fire needs oxygen to burn and produce heat.

  • Increase the speed smoke rises by reducing the size of the outlet, which can create a jet-like effect.

  • Reduce the entry of rain and downdrafts of air that can prevent the smoke leaving the building, and scatter hot embers from the fire.
